The Blakely Estate D 2 well near Haslet (about 15 miles north of Fort Worth) was drilled and completed by Devon in 2002, shortly after it acquired its Barnett Shale assets from Mitchell Energy. It has the distinction of being the first well where an exploration and production company successfully combined horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing to commercially produce fossil fuels from shale.
