Bob Stoops is back in college football.

Just not on the sidelines.

The former OU coach is joining Fox’s college football pregame show, Big Noon Kickoff, as first reported by the New York Post. Stoops will replace Urban Meyer, who was hired in January to coach the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Stoops, who retired from coaching the Sooners in 2017, was the focus of Fox’s search to replace Meyer, according to the Post. A source told the newspaper that Meyer spoke to Stoops about the job and its duties.

Meyer spent two seasons with Fox.

This won’t be the first time Stoops, 60, has dabbled in football since leaving the OU sidelines. He was the head coach of the Dallas Renegades in the XFL, but the league shut down during the pandemic.

Stoops, who has worked as a special assistant to OU athletic director Joe Castiglione since retiring from coaching, also made a brief return to the field last fall. Several Sooner coaches were sidelined by COVID protocols, and to help with practice, Stoops stepped in for several days but was not on the field for any OU games.
