Perils of party loyalty

Now that Republican politicians have demonstrated it's more important to get reelected than to protect our democracy, perhaps it's time to consider term limits for members of Congress.

For a brief moment, Sen. James Lankford saw the serious effects of Trump's self-serving rantings and took a stand to protect us, but in the end, loyalty to the party overcame his discernment of the truth.

This time it was a Republican president who governed as a despot and threatened revenge toward anyone who dared to rebuke him, but next time it could be a Democrat.

NBA out of step

I am concerned with the posture of the NBA. Last season during the COVID-19 outbreak, a team visiting the Thunder took from OKC's needed supplies. This season one team refused to play the national anthem and Tuesday evening the Thunder played a game using up vital electricity and natural gas needed to heat the homes of our residents in this weather emergency.

These actions are out of step with what I have come to expect from those who respect and care for others. Perhaps we should no longer expect but demand these values be honored if these NBA teams expect our support.
