Oklahoma high school boys basketball: Hammon sophomore dies in car crash

Michael Land, a sophomore on the Hammon boys basketball team, died Thursday night in a car crash. He was 16.

Land was driving home from practice when the accident occurred.

He was one of Hammon's top players. A guard, he scored at least 30 points in a game multiple times this season.

Hammon is a Class B school in far western Oklahoma, about 120 miles from Oklahoma City. The Warriors are 11-9 this season and are scheduled to begin district play Thursday at home against Sweetwater.

Funeral services are pending.
