'Appalling': OKC Thunder coach Mark Daigneault responds to riot at U.S. Capitol

Pelicans coach Stan Van Gundy sent a series of tweets Wednesday as rioters supporting President Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol.

“We reap what we sow,” Van Gundy tweeted. “This debacle at the U.S Capitol has been building for the last 4 years. This is what we have come to as a country. Those that have tolerated, even encouraged this behavior — are you proud now?”

Thunder coach Mark Daigneault described the events as “appalling.”

“This is a great country, but it’s also one where there’s times where it’s hard to recognize ourselves,” Daigneault said Wednesday. “The distance between who we want to be, and who we think we are and who we really are is vast at certain times. This, along with a long string of events in recent history, is just yet another reminder of how far we have to go.”

The Thunder and Pelicans will play at 7 p.m. Wednesday in New Orleans. No NBA games scheduled for Wednesday have so far been postponed.

Daigneault, meeting with the media 90 minutes before tip-off, said the Thunder had not yet met as a team to discuss the violence in Washington, D.C.

“I obviously try to be pretty transparent with you guys about a lot of that stuff,” Daigneault said, “but we are gonna keep those types of conversations inside our locker room.”
