Oklahoma Class 5A football: Guthrie edges Lawton MacArthur in second round of playoffs

The Guthrie football team kept its season alive, but it wasn’t easy.

The Bluejays held off seventh-ranked Lawton MacArthur for a 42-39 road victory Friday night in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs.

Guthrie, which will play at No. 3 Collinsville (10-0) in the quarterfinals, never trailed during Friday’s game, but Lawton MacArthur (6-3) battled until the Bluejays sealed the win with a fumble recovery late in the fourth quarter.

“Both teams made mistakes, and the other teams capitalized,” Guthrie coach Kelly Beeby said. “Really, really good high school football game over there.”

Kaiden Ballard-Stevenson was one of Guthrie’s (6-2) top performers. The senior wide receiver and defensive back had two touchdown receptions and an interception.
