Oklahoma high school cross country: Mustang’s Gabe Simonsen wins Meet of Champions
Mustang senior cross country runner Gabe Simonsen won the Meet of Champions on Saturday at Broken Arrow.
Competing against some of the best high school runners from Oklahoma and Arkansas, the three-time Class 6A state champion finished the 5-kilometer run in 15 minutes, 45.76 seconds.
Arkansas’ Jack Williams finished in 15:56.09 to place second, and Deer Creek junior Gilbert Velez was third with a time of 15:59.48.
In the girls division, two Broken Arrow runners finished in the top two.
Junior Payton Hinkle, who has claimed two consecutive Class 6A state titles, won with a time of 18:47.22.
Freshman Lily Melton completed the run in 19:21.22 to place second, and Bixby junior Cayden Dawson finished in 19:28.04 for third.
Oklahoma beat Arkansas in both the boys and girls divisions.
