DEAR MELBA: My thoughts always turn to chili when the weather starts to get chilly. Try these. They're good.
• 1 can (18 ounces) chili with beans
• 3 tablespoons dried onion flakes
• 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
• 1 teaspoon brown sugar
• 1 pound wieners
• 1 package (12 ounces) hot dog buns
• 6 ounces Pepper Jack cheese
In large saucepan, combine chili, dried onions, Worcestershire and brown sugar. Cook over medium heat until ingredients are warm, stirring occasionally.
Penetrate each wiener with fork and add to mixture. Reduce heat to simmer, cover and heat until wieners are hot and chili mixture thickens, about 15 minutes.
Spread about 1-tablespoon mixture on each hot dog bun and sprinkle with cheese. Add bun tops and wrap each individually in foil. refrigerate until ready to serve.
Heat oven to about 325 F and bake until warm, about 30 to 40 minutes.

DEAR MELBA: I was looking through one of my cookbooks from years ago and found a recipe that Georgia Pattison might like to try.
• 3 cups granulated sugar
• 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
• 1/2 teaspoon salt (can be omitted)
• 1 1/4 cups water
• 3 cups shortening
• 1/4 cup water
• 3 pounds powdered sugar
• 1 tablespoon vanilla
Boil sugar, cream of tartar, salt and water to 225 F.
Cover with cloth and cool to lukewarm. Then add shortening and 1/2 pound powdered sugar. Beat until well blended. Add remaining powdered sugar, vanilla and more water, if needed. Beat until smooth. It makes a large mixer bowl full.
This keeps indefinitely if covered lightly and kept in the refrigerator.
