Oklahoma high school football: Wayne set to host Hinton in first round of Class A playoffs

The Wayne football team will rely heavily on juniors Ethan Mullins and Brannon Lewelling to make a deep run in the Class A playoffs.

The Bulldogs are set to host Hinton in the first round Friday.

Mullins, one of the best quarterbacks in Class A, will be the main threat in Wayne’s run-heavy offense, and he’s averaging more than 200 rushing yards per game.

Lewelling will lead the defense at linebacker.

Although Wayne (5-2) has a small number of players this season, it has won five of its last six games. The Bulldogs are gritty and will bring a lot of energy into their game against Hinton (1-7).

“Our numbers are down,” Wayne coach Brandon Sharp said. “We’ve had about 18, 19 kids all season, but they come out every day in practice and every Friday night when we play. They go to battle.”
