Scouting Iowa State
Record: 3-1 (3-0 Big 12)
Best player: Since the demoralizing season-opening loss to Louisiana, Brock Purdy has been one of the Big 12’s most efficient quarterbacks. The junior has completed 68.9 percent of his passes (62-of-90) for 767 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions against conference opponents.
The case for Iowa State: The Louisiana debacle aside, Iowa State is averaging 35 points per game and playing well in the clutch. The Cyclones held off a fourth-quarter rally by TCU for a 37-34 victory, then came from behind in the final period to defeat OU 37-31.
The case for OSU: The extra week off gave quarterback Spencer Sanders additional time to heal his ankle injury. He rejoins an offense that found its footing in a 47-point performance at Kansas on Oct. 3. The OSU defense has been stout all year, but will face its toughest test so far.
