Oklahoma Class A softball: Binger-Oney advanced to the state championship with another strong defensive outing

Throughout the state tournament, Binger-Oney produced spectacular defensive plays.

So when the opportunity presented itself in the final inning, the Bobcats made easily another.

Jadyn Goucher watched as a hard-hit ball came storming at her. She stood in front of it and blocked the short hop with her body, knocking the ball down at her feet. Recognizing she no longer had an opportunity to throw the runner out a first, Goucher grabbed the ball and flung it to second base where it beat the sliding runner to the bag.

The Bobcats ran and hugged each other after the final out on Field 3 of the USA Hall of Fame Stadium.

With the win on Friday afternoon, Binger-Oney topped Caddo 4-0 in seven innings to advance to the Class A state championship.

“I really thought the bottom-half of our lineup gave some good at-bats and extended some innings so we could get the top of the lineup back up,” Binger-Oney coach Jason Wilson said. “Other than that defense was outstanding again.”

For the second consecutive game, Addison Wilson threw a three-hit complete-game shutout. The defense held tight behind Addison and helped by making spectacular plays. After the game, Jason Wilson still couldn’t believe the diving catch Jordan Anthony-Baade made at second base.

“My second baseman lays out, not a chance in the world she gets it, and she caught it," Wilson said. "I’m talking one of the best plays you’ll ever see. But just things like that. My outfield was solid, it's just not a lot of fear in them on defense.”

Binger-Oney will take on Ripley in the Class A state championship on Field 1 of the USA Hall of Fame Stadium at 1:30 on Saturday.
