Scouting Texas
Record: 2-1, 1-1 Big 12
Best player: Quarterback Sam Ehlinger has performed well against the Sooners over his career, throwing for 1,151 yards and five touchdowns in four career games against OU. He’s also run for eight scores. Ehlinger has thrown for 924 yards and 14 touchdowns with two interceptions so far this season.
The case for Texas: The Longhorns at least have a Big 12 win and two wins over a FBS opponents. The Sooners have neither of those things. Texas is averaging 51 points through three games while OU’s defense has struggled in its two games against FBS competition.
The case for Oklahoma: The Sooners have won back-to-back games against the Longhorns and at least Kansas State and Iowa State appear to be good teams. Texas Tech, which led Texas late before blowing the lead, might not be. The Red Raiders nearly lost to Houston Baptist in their opener. The Sooners haven’t dropped three consecutive games since John Blake’s final season in 1998.
