Oklahoma high school football: Why Collin Gibson has been a difference maker for McLoud

MCLOUD – Collin Gibson has been a difference maker.

The senior quarterback at McLoud had 22 carries for 187 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran in a two-point conversion in a 48-20 win against previously unbeaten Mount St. Mary on Friday.

"Collin is a phenomenal athlete," McLoud coach Rusty Hall said. "That's one area we lacked last year, at the quarterback spot. He's provided not only that depth there, that experience, but leadership, too. He's been a pretty focal point of our offense to this point.

Gibson, who moved from Little Axe following his junior season, has helped McLoud (3-2, 1-1 District 3A-1) to its most wins since 2017, but he and the team are looking for more.

McLoud is in Class 3A's toughest district. After dropping its opener against Heritage Hall, McLoud will likely have to beat one of Perkins-Tryon, Anadarko or Kingfisher to make the playoffs. The path is there, and Hall says his team is excited for the challenge.

"It's great to go on the road and beat a team who was undefeated at the time," Hall said. "I'm proud of our guys for their resiliency."
