Oklahoma high school softball: Rebecca Cobb guided Tuttle to fifth-straight district title

Tuttle fastpitch coach Rebecca Cobb has always preached one message.

Don’t be selfish.

“Do what’s best for the team,” Cobb told her girls. “If you’re struggling, let someone else come in and help you.”

The message has done more than resonate with the Tigers. It’s carried them to the program's fifth straight district championship and a 14-0 record in district play this season.

But that’s only part of the phenomenal note.

Through five seasons, Tuttle is 64-0 in district play. Cobb, who became Tuttle’s coach in 2016 has guided them to every win.

“We’ve had a pretty good year so far this year, especially finishing our district again undefeated,” Cobb said. “I’ve had some really good players that have come along and carried us through and ones that will step up when you need them to step up.”

Tuttle (23-8) doesn’t have a standout player who carries the load for the team. They’ve won as a collective. That has catapulted them to wins in district and nondistrict games this season.

On Tuesday, the Tigers topped Class 6A and nationally ranked Southmoore 10-1.

“Like yesterday, I don’t think my 3-hole or my 5-hole [hitter] got a hit,” Cobb said on Wednesday. “But when we play tomorrow, they may be the top hitters. So it’s been a very good thing. When you look at the whole week, it’s been a big joint effort on all of them.”
