Oklahoma high school football: Luther's quick start helps claim first win
LUTHER – Drew Scheer sparked the Luther football team's defense early.
After junior quarterback Braden Browning scored on a 25-yard run, Scheer recovered a fumble and returned it 21 yards for a touchdown, sparking a huge first quarter in the Lions' 49-7 win against Blackwell on Friday to open district play. Scheer also had five catches for 65 yards and a score.
Luther forced six Blackwell fumbles and recovered three of them. The Lions (1-3, 1-0 District 2A-1) scored 28 points in the first quarter and gave up only one score, which came in the third quarter.
Browning completed 10-of-17 passes for 183 yards while rushing for 63 yards on 12 carries and scoring three touchdowns.
Luther's nondistrict opponents combined to lose only one game, so the Lions are tested and look to build upon their first win Friday at Chisholm (1-3, 0-1).
