Oklahoma high school softball: Terin Ritz leads Deer Creek to another district win

Terin Ritz winded back and threw another strike across the plate.

The senior pitcher from Deer Creek consistently pounded the strike zone on Thursday night as she finished with 14-strikeouts while giving up just four hits in 7 innings pitched.

She paired her defensive performance by batting 3-5 (.600) from the plate which included a home run.

With her production, Deer Creek topped Putnam City 13-1 on Thursday night for another district win. The Antlers improved to 11-1 in district play on the season.

Even with the stellar individual performance by Ritz, Deer Creek coach Trent Patterson said Thursday night was one of the most well-rounded games the Antlers played all season.

"Offensively, our 2-3-4-5-6 [hole batters] all had multiple hits and they all had two or three RBI's as well," Patterson said. "So the middle of the order did what we needed them to do tonight. It was a good performance all around for us."

Deer Creek will need the collective production as they head into a district rivalry game with Mustang, who is coming off a Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference Tournament Championship. The matchup will be Deer Creek's final district game of the regular season.

"I'm kind of new to it, being from the East side of the state," Patterson said about the rivalry between the two teams. "I know both these teams in softball are usually the top-tier of whatever class they're in.

"We just have to make sure that we go out and execute on the opportunities we're given and capitalize on those, play sound defense, and just see what happens."

Deer Creek (18-6) will travel to Mustang (18-8) on Monday.
