Oklahoma high school football: Bridge Creek gets back to basics against Lexington

BLANCHARD – Bridge Creek football coach Scott O'Hara knew he needed to change things up.

During the Bobcats' 27-12 win against Lexington on Friday, O'Hara was facing off against former assistants. Ones that knew his play signals and his offense. He had to rethink how he wanted to game plan.

So he and the Bridge Creek offense got back to the basics. A two tight end set with a full house backfield. And it worked.

"We just were able to take control of the game," O'Hara said. "Our team really bought in. The entire offensive line just took control and dominated."

Bridge Creek controlled the tempo, rushed for more than 200 yards and was able to dominate the line of scrimmage. Instead of signaling in plays, the quarterback ran to the sideline and got the call between snaps.

It's a strategy that worked so well, O'Hara doesn't see a need to change it, especially with a tough district slate coming up. District 3A-1 is loaded with Anadarko, Heritage Hall, Kingfisher and Perkins-Tryon the favorites. But Mount St. Mary is undefeated after its opening three contests and McLoud's only loss came in overtime.

Bridge Creek opens district play hosting Kingfisher at 7 p.m. Friday.
