College football: Sooners up to No. 3, Cowboys rise to No. 11 in AP poll

There's usually not a lot of movement in the Associated Press poll after a weekend where just one ranked team lost.

But this isn't most seasons.

The AP poll had a major shakeup Sunday, including OU moving up two spots to No. 3 and OSU four spots to No. 11.

Most of the shakeup was due to teams who are not playing this season — teams from the Big Ten, Pac 12 and Mountain West — dropping from the poll.

That cleared room for plenty of new faces — Memphis at No. 16 followed by other newcomers Miami, Louisville, Louisiana-Lafayette, Virginia Tech, BYU, Army, Kentucky, Appalachian State and Pittsburgh.

OU jumped Georgia, which has yet to play this season, and moved up another spot thanks to Ohio State's departure from the poll.

The Sooners were last ranked in the top three in 2017, when they finished No. 3 in the final poll.

The Cowboys, whose season opener against Tulsa was postponed until Sept. 19, have their highest ranking since midway through the 2017 season.

Texas moved up to No. 9, while Baylor, West Virginia, TCU, Iowa State and Texas Tech all received votes.
