Oklahoma high school football: Harrah gives coach Chris Bliek his first win while playing without 12 starters
The Harrah football team was dealt a blow ahead of Friday’s home game against Bridge Creek.
Earlier in the week, 12 Harrah starters were forced to quarantine.
The Class 4A Panthers could either play without more than half of their starters or attempt to cancel or postpone the contest.
Harrah ultimately decided to play and gave Chris Bliek his first win as a head coach, defeating Bridge Creek 12-0.
“I think this win really defined our team through all the battles and all the mountains we had to climb,” Bliek said. “It’s bigger than a win with the circumstances we had to face.”
Quarterback Nolan Boone and running back Michael Yarbrough led Harrah’s (1-1) offense. Boone tossed a touchdown to Colton McElwee, and Yarbrough ran for a score.
Harrah defensive lineman Patrick Montgomery, who hadn’t received much playing time until Friday, had three sacks against the Class 3A Bobcats (0-2).
Harrah’s quarantined players will be out through Friday.
The Panthers’ game at Class 3A McLoud (1-1), which is set for Friday, will likely be moved to Saturday.
