OSU football: Johnny Barr, Mike Groce among layoffs

STILLWATER — The Oklahoma State athletic department’s financial cutbacks announced Tuesday included the layoff of two men in football operations.

Longtime college assistant Johnny Barr, who had been working as OSU’s director of football relations, was let go, as well as recruiting coordinator Mike Groce, according to multiple online reports.

The 72-year-old Barr had been in football coaching or operations for 50 years following his playing career as a receiver at OU. He twice held coaching jobs at OU and was in his third stint with OSU, having been on coach Mike Gundy’s staff since 2009 in various operations roles.

Groce had been at OSU for eight years in the recruiting department. Barr is married to Groce’s sister.

In all, OSU announced that 10 athletic department employees were laid off.
