John Fullbright to play free show at Scissortail Park to celebrate the downtown OKC park's one-year anniversary
Grammy-nominated Oklahoma singer-songwriter John Fullbright will perform a special Live from the Lawn concert Sept. 26 at Scissortail Park to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the downtown Oklahoma City park's grand opening.
As previously reported, Scissortail Park, 300 SW 7, opened in September 2019 with a huge outdoor concert featuring three nationally renowned bands with Oklahoma ties: Kings of Leon, BRONCHO and Republican Hair (which now is known as Hey Steve). The free show set an Oklahoma City record by drawing 28,000 fans simply because OKC proper had never before had a venue capable of hosting so many people.
With the coronavirus pandemic ongoing, such massive celebrations aren't possible, but the Sept. 26 Live from the Lawn presentation will be a free, live show featuring Fullbright with a special guest that has not yet been revealed, according to a news release.
The opening act will take the stage at 8 p.m. Sept. 26, and Fullbright will follow at 9 p.m.
The concert will take place on the Love’s Travel Stops Stage and Great Lawn at Scissortail Park, where the 4.4-acre expanse provides ample space to partake of a free outdoor concert while practicing responsible social distancing.
Live from the Lawn is presented by Oklahoma Natural Gas and Richard and Glenna Tanenbaum. It is also supported by Spark Creative, Downtown Oklahoma City Partnership and Cory’s Audio Visual.
Additional details about the the anniversary celebration are coming soon.
