INASMUCH FOUNDATION/CRYSTAL BRIDGE
Special announcement: An announcement was made on the north end of the Crystal Bridge recently. Inasmuch Foundation and Myriad Gardens staff and board members attended the event. It featured the Inasmuch Foundation donation of $2.5 million towards the capital campaign project to renovate the Crystal Bridge Conservatory interior. The Crystal Bridge will close in the winter 2021 and reopen in the summer 2022. Total amount for the project is $9.1 million.
Speakers at the event: Speakers were Bob Ross, executive director, Inasmuch Foundation; Maureen Heffernan, executive director and CEO of Myriad Gardens Foundation; James R. Tolbert, chairman emeritus, Myriad Gardens Foundation; Larry Nichols, chairman, executive board, Myriad Gardens Foundation; Mayor David Holt, and Chris Fleming, chairman, Myriad Gardens Foundation community board.
Decor: Decorations on the podium and stage were floral arrangements of Crystal Bridge plants created by the conservatory manager Roberta Rowland.
THETAS/CASA
Occasion: Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae Chapter of Oklahoma City gave the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Oklahoma County a $15,000 gift in August to continue support of the CASA mission. The check was presented at the new CASA building. The money raised was by sponsorship donations that were given for the group’s “Game On” event, which was ultimately canceled due to COVID-19. CASA is Kappa Alpha Theta’s national philanthropy.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHUCK
Surprise drive-by: Marguerite Stumbaugh, wife of Chuck Stumbaugh, coordinated a drive-by birthday for him. Fifty-two friends from Tulsa, Shawnee, Edmond and Oklahoma came by with cards, gifts and gift cards (although the invitation stated “No gifts.”) All guests received a bottle of lemonade with a label saying “Thank you for celebrating my 80th birthday. Chuck Stumbaugh 08-23-20-20."
The honoree: Stumbaugh was in the College of Business at the University of Central Oklahoma for almost 40 years as an accounting and income tax professor. He retired in 2005. He and his wife, Marguerite, who celebrated her birthday on Aug. 26, live in Edmond.
CELEBRATING 100
Event: The newly-organized Oklahoma Daughters of the American Revolution, Chapter Cordelia Steen, was awarded a proclamation from the Governor’s Office to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. Participating in the event were Jan Beattie, registrar; Tammy Ross, vice regent; Andrea Aven, regent; and Ellen Lee, librarian. The 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution was adopted on Aug. 26, 1920.
VIRTUAL WORKSHOP
Meeting virtually: In August, the Oklahoma State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution convened for a virtual workshop. Over 200 members engaged in proceedings over the Zoom format. State Regent Teresa Cales led the workshop and Magen Runyan assisted with the event.
