Oklahoma high school softball: Edmond North coach Rick Nordyke earns win 600
The celebration began as Edmond North topped Tulsa Union 14-3 in the Owasso Festival on Friday.
Any other time it would have just been another win in the record books for the Husky fastpitch softball program. But Friday’s win marked a feat Edmond North coach Rick Nordyke couldn’t believe he had reached.
Six hundred career wins.
“It’s something you kind of look back on and say, ‘Man I can’t believe I got that many wins,’” Nordyke said. “Because the teams we play night-in and night-out are so good. And to be able to compete with them and beat them says a lot about my kids out there playing.”
Nordyke has been a coach for 26 years. And although he’s been the face of the Edmond North softball program for so long, he couldn’t help but thank those who’ve helped him along the way.
“I was blessed with a lot of good assistant coaches and players,” He said. “We wake up every day just hoping to play another game. That’s all we look forward to.”
