Energy FC deadlocks with Rio Grande Valley FC in scoreless USL match at Taft Stadium
After suffering back-to-back 3-0 losses, Energy FC deadlocked with Rio Grande Valley FC in a scoreless match on Saturday night.
The draw helped inch Oklahoma City to seven points on the season, which is tied for third place in Group D in the USL Standings.
The Greens have endured sluggish starts all season, but found rare offensive aggression early against the Toros.
They struggled to net anything, but did avoid their recurring defensive lapses in the first half.
In the second half, the Greens looked out of sync on both sides of the ball. Defensively, they were lucky to escape with no goals scored due to several easy shots whiffed by RGV. It was the first clean sheet registered for Oklahoma City this season.
Jose Hernandez found Energy FC's best look at a goal in the 67th minute by weaving his way through several defenders, but he couldn’t finish. Jaime Chavez almost netted a long-range shot in the 80th minute, but it sailed high.
The Greens finished 0-2-2 in their four-game home-stand. At 1-3-3 on the season, they now finish seven of their nine remaining matches on the road starting with San Antonio FC on Wednesday.
