Chris Paul signs letter urging Joe Biden to pick Black woman as running mate
Thunder point guard Chris Paul is among a group of more than 100 Black male leaders who signed a letter urging Joe Biden to pick a Black woman as his running mate.
"Failing to select a Black woman in 2020 means YOU WILL lose the election," the group wrote. "Black women are defining the future of politics, so it's time you let one define the future of your campaign."
Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, is expected to make a vice presidential announcement this week, according to the New York Times.
Paul has long been politically active. He's a co-chair of When We All Vote, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that strives to increase participation by closing the race and age voting gap.
"When we organize, when we strategize, when we come together, and when we vote, we have the ability to change things," Paul said recently. "We can make our communities stronger, and overall we can make our country stronger, but we have to come together."
