Oklahoma high school football: Anthony Robinson plans to make an easy transition as head coach of Star Spencer

Anthony Robinson spent his weekend preparing the Star Spencer practice football field.

Monday will not only be the first practice of the 2020 season, but it will be his first as the school’s head coach.

For many coaches, the first practice can prove to be a worrisome time. But for Robinson, the transition has been easy.

“I’m not new,” he said. “I’ve been in the district for 25 years, and I’ve been coaching for 27 years.”

A Langston alum, Robinson began his coaching career at Millwood before spending time at Northwest Classen, Douglass and Star Spencer.

“I’ve been [at Star Spencer] for eight years,” said Robinson, who was promoted in June. “I’m well known in the community, parents pretty much have embraced me as one of their own. It was a good feeling because I was already there and know how the school and community works.”

Along with coaching, Robinson has volunteered with Oklahoma Special Olympics and served as a Boy Scout troop leader, among other volunteer work. His long coaching tenure will sure be helpful in his first season leading the Bobcats’ program.

“Every day, every minute, every hour, I’m trying to do the best I can to put the student-athlete in a situation where they can be successful,” he said. “I have a complete staff helping this year so I’m looking forward to the upcoming season.”
