Quail Springs Mall in Oklahoma City has had quite the history since ground broke on it in 1979. Here are 14 key moments of the last 41 years.
Construction begins on Quail Springs Mall in 1979.
Crowds pack Quail Springs Mall on opening day on Oct. 23, 1980.
"The Veta," a three-ton modernistic sculpture made of steel beams, rests on the front lawn of the new Quail Springs Mall in 1980.
Construction begins on the Kilpatrick Turnpike in 1990, which expands the mall’s reach to western Oklahoma.
The 24-screen AMC Theater and a new food court opens up in 1998.
The longstanding retail giant Sears closes its doors at Quail Springs Mall in January 2013.
Oklahoma City agrees to a $2 million sales rebate as part of redeveloping the closed Sears spaces into a Von Maur department store in February 2013.
Von Maur opens in 2014.
H&M, a junior anchor, opens its first Oklahoma store at Quail Springs Mall in 2015.
Another retail giant closes its doors at the mall: Macy's shut it down in 2016.
Lifetime Fitness buys the former Macy’s building in May 2016 with plans to tear it down, build a new complex.
