High school girls basketball: Two Star Spencer Bobcats sign letters of intent, the first since 2016

Star Spencer’s Travisha Cogdell and Shamyia Pugh signed to play college basketball in the Star Spencer High School Parking lot on Monday.

Cogdell signed to Northern Oklahoma College - Tonkawa and Pugh signed to Tabor College in Kansas.

The pair were the first to sign letters of intent from Star Spencer's girl's basketball team since Shatoya Bryson signed to Central Oklahoma in 2016.

“It was probably 50 to 60 people there,” Star Spencer coach Chivon Gulley said. “It was comprised of people from the community, people from the school, alumni, old teammates, parents and some of their friends.”

In their Freshman season, Star Spencer posted a record of 2-18. Since then, Pugh and Cogdell led the Bobcats to three consecutive winning seasons including a 14-9 record last season.

“They are a part of that group that turned the girl's program around at Star Spencer,” Gulley said. “They are true pioneers for our program and for where it is today.”

As a forward, Cogdell recorded 195 points, 221 rebounds, 18 blocks and 18 assists this season. She was named the Fields & Futures Female Student-Athlete of the Year.

As a point guard, Pugh tallied 147 points, 34 rebounds, 35 assists, 33 steals and four blocks.

Along with basketball, the pair played multiple sports for Star Spencer.

“I can’t say enough good,” Gulley said. “They’re probably some of the best kids Star Spencer has to offer.”
