No regrets for builder of never-opened Oklahoma City St. Jude Dream Home
EDMOND — COVID-19 cost Shaw Homes the attention, foot traffic, and potential sales that come with building the annual St. Jude Dream Home, which has not been open to the public this year because of the coronavirus.
It has not dimininished the Broken Arrow-based homebuider's commitment to the project, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and its charity mission to treat and defeat childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
When the chance came to build the Oklahoma City Dream Home, which is in Edmond's Woodland Park addition, "Our response was 'yes,' before they even told us the details," said Aaron Antis, vice president of sales for Shaw Homes, which is new to the metro area but already building in seven neighborhoods.
The home is complete: 2,500 square feet, three bedrooms, three baths, at 8616 Maple Creek Road, valued at $365,000. Woodland Park addition is east of Douglas Boulevard, north of Covell Road. The home will be raffled off at 9 a.m. Aug. 27 on Fox 25.
Reserve a $100 ticket by Aug. 6 to be entered into a bonus prize drawing for a $5,000 Visa gift card courtesy of Friends of St. Jude. Reserve a ticket online at www.dreamhome.org or by calling 800-592-1596.
It was a big disappointment for Shaw Homes not to have the personal, one-on-one encounters with people that come with daily public tours of the Dream Home, Antis said. But, he said Glenn Shaw, who founded the company in 1985, and others believe that it and the hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, will be blessed for their efforts.
"Our trust is in God. When you sow, you always reap," Antis said.
In addition to the St. Jude Dream Home, Shaw Homes has a model home in the Woodland Park addition, at 3303 Birchwood Creek Circle.
Shaw Homes also builds in these additions: Fox Lair Estates, northwest of Waterloo Road and N Pennsylvania Avenue; Ridge Creek, west of Douglas Boulevard and north of Coffee Creek Road; Rush Brook, southeast of NW 192 and Western Avenue; Pinnacle, south of SW 29 between Sara and Mustang roads; Twin Silos, northwest of NW 150 and Council Road; and Timber Ridge, north of Memorial Road between Cemetery and Frisco roads.
Other local sponsors of the St. Jude Dream Home are The Oklahoman, Fox 25, 101.9 The Twister, 405 Magazine, Edmond Life & Leisure, Perry Publishing & Broadcasting, Homeland, Epsilon Sigma Alpha and El Latino American. National sponsors are Brizo, Shaw Floors, Trane and Bosch.
