High school baseball: Large West rallies late to win the OBCA All-State game

After catching the final out of the sixth inning, Oklahoma State signee Dominic Johnson ran to the dugout to deliver a message to his teammates who were trailing the East by five runs.

“I said, ‘Look we’re about to win this game, we’re putting up six,” Johnson said. “I did it all last year with my [Edmond] Santa Fe team and we’re going to do it right here. I believe in you guys.’”

Johnson’s message came to fruition.

Large West rallied from behind to top the East 10-9 in the Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association All-State game at the Bricktown Ballpark on Saturday afternoon.

The rally was backed by Carl Albert’s Jake Estes who led the inning with a single and capped it by sprinting out an RBI single to give the West the lead.

“I had all my teammates behind me, hyping me up,” Estes said. “This guy right here, Dom Johnson, hyping me up at the plate. I just got the job done.”

Enid’s Conner Gore, another OSU signee, was named the Most Valuable Player. He finished with three singles, an RBI and a stolen base.

"I played with a lot of those guys when I was younger so not even getting MVP just winning the game, those guys fighting and scratching, everybody coming together in the last inning really meant a lot to me," Gore said. "But it's good to win MVP. I feel really blessed to win."

Collinsville's Issac Webb, an Oklahoma commit, hammered a two-run home run into the left-field bullpen in the first inning for the Large East.
