Former Broken Arrow football star DeMeco Roland commits to Texas Tech

Former Broken Arrow football standout DeMeco Roland announced Friday on Twitter he has committed to Texas Tech.

Roland, a defensive tackle, is heading into his sophomore season at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. He is the second defensive lineman from Oklahoma to commit to Texas Tech’s 2021 recruiting class, joining Vian’s Solomon Wright.

In 2018, Roland helped Broken Arrow win its first football state title in school history, finishing his senior year with 42 tackles and two sacks.

Roland, who was No. 23 on The Oklahoman’s Super 30 list of the state’s top 2019 recruits, committed to North Texas during high school before changing his decision.

Several members of Texas Tech's coaching staff have Oklahoma ties. Head coach Matt Wells and his brother, tight ends and inside receivers coach Luke Wells, are Sallisaw natives. Defensive coordinator Keith Patterson is from Marlow, and offensive line coach Steve Farmer is from Coweta.
