5 Oklahoma high school swimmers earn NISCA All-America honors

Five Oklahoma swimmers have earned national recognition for their performances during the 2019-20 high school season.

Shawnee’s Piper McNeil and Norman North’s relay team of Jonathan Tang, Caleb Bowden, Aiden Hayes and Daniel Wilson received All-America honors from the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association.

McNeil, The Oklahoman’s 2020 All-City Girls Swimmer of the Year, was named an All-American in the 100-yard backstroke. She completed the race in 55.49 seconds as a freshman during the state meet in February, setting a Class 6A record. Her time was tied for 86th in the country.

Norman North’s relay squad was recognized in the 200 and 400 freestyle events.

The Timberwolves’ time of 3:03.73 in the 400 freestyle was 15th in the nation. They tied for No. 43 in the 200 freestyle (1:24.52).

Wilson, a Missouri signee and The Oklahoman’s 2020 All-City Boys Swimmer of the Year, and Hayes were each named All-Americans in two individual events.

Wilson placed 10th nationally in the 100 freestyle (43.85) and 17th in the 200 freestyle (1:37.24).

Hayes had the nation’s second-fastest time in the 100 butterfly (46.79) and tied for No. 14 in the 50 freestyle (20.17). The N.C. State commit will be a senior next season.
