Former Jenks star Will Edwards named Gatorade’s Oklahoma Boys Soccer Player of the Year

Former Jenks standout Will Edwards was named Monday the Gatorade Oklahoma Boys Soccer Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Edwards, a forward and midfielder, had four goals and four assists this spring before the coronavirus pandemic canceled his senior season. Last year, he recorded 14 goals and eight assists as Jenks finished 18-0 and won the Class 6A state title.

Edwards is one of seven players from Jenks to win the award, which recognizes athletic and academic success and exemplary character.

In addition to Edwards’ accomplishments on the field, the Tulsa signee served on Jenks’ student council and volunteered for the Make-a-Wish Foundation and a youth summer camp.

Edwards, who maintained a 3.71 grade-point average, is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year award. The winner will be announced this month.
