Oklahoma high school sports: Heritage Hall names new coaches for volleyball, girls basketball, cross country

Heritage Hall has filled three head-coaching vacancies.

The school announced Tuesday it has hired Dana Schwab (volleyball), Parker Cassell (girls basketball) and John Champney (cross country).

Schwab will begin her second stint as Heritage Hall’s coach. Schwab, who graduated from the school in 2007, led the Chargers to Class 5A state championships in 2013 and 2014. After four seasons away from the program, she replaces Kimo Aweau, who helped the Chargers reach the state finals in 2018 and the quarterfinals last season.

Cassell played basketball at Heritage Hall and graduated in 2011. He previously coached at Mount St. Mary, and his tenure ended in 2018. Both of Cassell’s parents were basketball coaches at Heritage Hall. His father, Keith, led the boys program from 1989-99, and his mother, Amy, coached the girls from 1997-99.

Leslie Hamlin was the girls basketball coach for the last 11 seasons and had a 167-112 record.

Champney spent the past 16 years as the cross country coach at Shelby High School in North Carolina. He guided the program to 16 conference titles and three regional championships. Champney replaces Craig Brown, who stepped away after four seasons.
