OSU baseball: Freshmen Justin Campbell, Caeden Trenkle named All-Americans

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State freshmen Justin Campbell and Caeden Trenkle had an abbreviated debut this spring, but they were still impressive.

Campbell and Trenkle were named to Collegiate Baseball’s Freshman All-American team on Tuesday.

Trenkle was honored as an outfielder, while Campbell was named as a multiple-position athlete.

Trenkle batted .333 with a three home runs and 16 RBIs in 18 games. He had four triples, which was tied for the NCAA lead.

Campbell was impressive on the mound and in the batter’s box. In 10 games as a hitter, he batted .414 with a homer and seven RBIs, and he had a pair of three-RBI games. He also hit safely in five of his last six games.

On the mound, the big right-hander was 1-2 with a 4.43 ERA in four starts, striking out 22 batters in 20 1/3 innings. 

He ended his season with eight shutout innings against BYU. He struck out nine and allowed three hits.
