OKC apartment fire kills man
An Oklahoma City man died from injuries suffered during an apartment fire last weekend.
On Sunday, firefighters arrived at the 4200 block of N Meridian Avenue and found a single-story apartment with visible smoke. Firefighters believed someone was inside the unit.
Fire crews forced their way into the apartment, found the man and removed him through the rear of the apartment, authorities said.
In critical condition, the man was transported by EMSA to a local. Two Oklahoma City firefighters rode with EMSA to assist with patient care.
The fire was small in size but produced a great deal of smoke throughout the unit. Crews were able to confine the fire to the apartment of origin.
Oklahoma City Fire Department investigators classified the cause of the fire as undetermined. Property loss was estimated to be $75,000 for the structure and $25,000 for contents.
The man’s death marked the sixth fire fatality this year.
