OU men's basketball: Sooners schedule home-and-home with Florida

NORMAN — OU men's basketball has added yet another SEC opponent to the schedule.

A few weeks after announcing a neutral-site series with Arkansas, the Sooners announced a home-and-home with Florida.

The teams will meet Dec. 2 in Norman, with OU playing in Gainesville, Florida, in 2021.

Florida leads the all-time series between the programs 2-1.

The teams last met early in the 2018-19 season, with the Sooners beating the Gators in the first round of the Battle 4 Atlantis.

The Gators beat the Sooners 84-52 at Lloyd Noble Center in January 2017 as part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. Florida also beat the Sooners 76-72 in the 1995 All-College Basketball Classic in Oklahoma City.

Sooners coach Lon Kruger coached Florida from 1990-96, going 104-80 during his tenure and leading the Gators to the 1994 Final Four.

Kruger is one of only two head coaches to take over two programs coming off sub-.500 seasons and lead them to the Final Four within his first five seasons.

Kruger led the Sooners to the Final Four in 2016, his fifth season in Norman.

Florida is the third Power 5 team the Sooners have on the non-conference schedule for 2020-21. OU will play Arkansas on Dec. 12 in Tulsa and Washington on Dec. 19 in Las Vegas as part of the Pac-12 Coast-to-Coast Challenge.

The Sooners will play at least one more SEC opponent, hosting an SEC/Big 12 Challenge in January against an opponent to be named later.

OU is 11-5 against SEC teams during the Kruger era. The Sooners have won five consecutive games against SEC opponents.

The Gators were 19-12 last season.
