High school football: Vian defensive lineman Solomon Wright commits to Texas Tech

Solomon Wright is going to be a Red Raider.

The Vian defensive lineman announced Friday on Twitter he has committed to Texas Tech.

"I am beyond thankful and blessed to have been given the opportunity to play at the next level," Wright said. "After a lot of thought and prayer, I have decided to commit to Texas Tech University. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the coaching staff is awesome."

Listed at 6-foot-1 and 270 pounds, Wright is coming off a dominant junior season. He finished with 124 tackles, including 51 for loss, and 14 sacks.

Wright, the son of former Oklahoma State star and NFL linebacker Kenyatta Wright, is a three-star prospect, according to Rivals.

Vian, which is 35 miles west of Fort Smith, Arkansas, went 13-2 last season and lost to Tulsa Metro Christian in the Class 2A state title game.

Texas Tech coach Matt Wells, a Sallisaw graduate, led the Red Raiders to a 4-8 record last year, his first at the school.
