High school baseball: Oklahoma Christian School hires Romus Cezar as head coach

Oklahoma Christian School ends its search for a baseball coach with a local hire.

The Saints hired former Edmond Santa Fe hitting coach Romus Cezar as their new head baseball coach, OCS athletic director Brandon Weaver announced Wednesday evening.

“It’s big for me because my family is here,” Cezar said. “Being able to get a head coaching job in the same city that we live in is big.”

Cezar was the hitting coach at Edmond Santa Fe for six seasons. During his tenure, Santa Fe won the 2019 Class 6A state championship.

“He's a big part of our staff and has been since the beginning,” Edmond Santa Fe baseball coach Ryan Phillips said. “He was my right-hand man pretty much. If I wasn’t there, he was in charge.”

Phillips and Cezar spent the 2013 season together at Southmoore under coach Craig Troxell. That same year, Phillips earned the head coaching job at Santa Fe and his first hire was Cezar.

"We learned together,” Phillips said. “And obviously he’s blossomed into a really good hitting coach and offensive coach and it’s just his turn to have his own team and program.”

Cezar will replace Jacob Stephenson who recently stepped down as OCS baseball coach after being named the new offensive coordinator of the Saints football team. He posted a 88-52 record during his five seasons.
