OU men's basketball: Sooners land UNT transfer Umoja Gibson

NORMAN — OU men's basketball has landed a commitment from the transfer portal.

Former North Texas guard Umoja Gibson announced his intention to transfer to OU on Twitter on Monday.

"I am blessed and thankful for the opportunity to continue my education and to play basketball at the University of Oklahoma," Gibson wrote in the tweet.

Gibson announced he was leaving North Texas and entering the transfer portal on April 3.

This is the first player the Sooners have gotten off the transfer portal since Corbin Merritt and Jamal Bieniemy announced their intentions to transfer from OU in recent weeks.

Gibson averaged 14.5 points, 1.9 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game for the Mean Green last season as a redshirt sophomore. He was second team all conference for Conference USA and shot 39.4 percent from 3-point range.

Gibson also scored 21 points in North Texas' 82-80 loss to OU on Dec. 5.
