Meet The Oklahoman's 2020 All-City boys swimming first team

Caleb Gregory, Bridge Creek

Class: Senior

Event: 50-yard freestyle

The story: Gregory capped his stellar high school career with another great season. He won the 50 freestyle (21.38 seconds) and 100 freestyle (47.80) at the Class 5A state meet.

Max Myers, Edmond Memorial

Class: Junior

Event: 100 freestyle

The story: The Notre Dame commit placed second at the Class 6A state meet in the 50 freestyle (21.16) and 100 freestyle (45.64).

Aiden Hayes, Norman North

Class: Junior

Event: 100 butterfly

The story: The Oklahoman’s 2018 and 2019 All-City Swimmer of the Year continued to shine. Hayes, an N.C. State commit, broke a record in the 100 butterfly (46.79) at the Class 6A state meet. He also won the 50 freestyle, completing the race in 20.16. He set the state record in 2019 with a time of 20.09.

Gavin Sires, Stillwater

Class: Junior

Event: 100 backstroke

The story: Sires placed second in the 100 backstroke (50.98) at the Class 6A state meet, losing by 0.02 seconds to Bartlesville senior Will Englehart. Sires placed third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.18.

Owen Flynn, Heritage Hall

Class: Sophomore

Event: 100 breaststroke

The story: Flynn earned a pair of Class 5A state titles with close victories against Tulsa Kelley swimmers. He edged senior Paul Hunt 1:00.79-1:01.46 in the 100 breaststroke. In the 200 individual medley, Flynn defeated junior Tyler Hoang 2:00.39-2:01.09.

Swimmer of the Year: Daniel Wilson, Norman North

Class: Senior

Event: 200 freestyle

The story: Wilson set records in two individual events at the Class 6A state meet, completing the 100 freestyle in 43.85 and the 200 freestyle in 1:37.24. The Missouri signee also helped Norman North win the 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay. The Timberwolves’ time of 1:24.52 in the 200 freestyle broke a state record. Their time of 3:03.73 in the 400 freestyle was just 0.26 seconds behind the record Norman North set in 2019. The 2020 relay team included Wilson, Aiden Hayes, Jonathan Tang and Caleb Bowden.

Jonathan Tang, Norman North

Class: Senior

Event: 200 individual medley

The story: The Dartmouth signee had two top-five individual finishes at the Class 6A state meet. He placed fifth in the 100 backstroke (52.44) and fourth in the 200 individual medley (1:52.90).

Matt Hall, Southmoore

Class: Junior

Event: 500 freestyle

The story: Hall placed third in the 500 freestyle at the Class 6A state meet. He also finished fifth in the 200 freestyle (1:45.70).

Coach of the Year: Heather Devoe, Edmond Public Schools

The story: Devoe led all three Edmond schools to top-10 finishes at the Class 6A boys state meet. Edmond North placed fifth, Edmond Memorial was eighth and Edmond Santa Fe was 10th.
