MAPS 4 begins with sales tax collections for 8-year, $978 million capital improvements program

MAPS 4 sales tax collections begin Wednesday after the Better Streets Safer City sales tax, approved by voters in 2017, expires.

The 1-cent MAPS 4 sales tax is expected to raise $978 million over eight years for a new OKC Fairgrounds Coliseum, arena renovations, affordable housing, social services facilities, a new animal shelter and other building projects. Voters approved the MAPS extension on Dec 10.

Mayor David Holt intended to have MAPS 4 Citizens Advisory Board nominees lined up by the end of March but said on last Friday's OKC Central live chat that it likely wouldn't happen until the end of April.
