Coronavirus in Oklahoma: Redbud Classic canceled due to public health concerns
The Redbud Classic running and cycling races set for April 4-5 in Nichols Hills were canceled due to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, event organizers announced Monday.
The cancellation comes two days after the postponement of the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, originally scheduled for April 26.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended a suspension of gatherings of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks. Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt was expected to announce a declaration Monday that would revoke permits for special events from March 16 through April 12.
This was set to be the 38th annual RedBud Classic, which features a 5K and 10K race for runners and cycling events of 10, 33 and 45 miles.
Organizers said registered participants and volunteers would be emailed with more information.
