Guner Womack's trophy buck is now officially a state record.

The Morrison teen and Oklahoma State Univeristy student became an Internet sensation in October when he arrowed a big 8x8 typical whitetail buck on family land in Pawnee County. He now owns the state typical archery record.

Womack's buck was officially scored Saturday afternoon at the Backwoods Show in Oklahoma City by a panel of three game wardens. The bruiser of a buck scored 188 5/8, one-eighth of an inch better than the previous state archery record for a typical whitetail deer.

The previous record typical whitetail archery buck was killed in 2011 by Wade Ward of Claremore.

When Womack shot his buck with a compound bow in October, it became the talk of the deer hunting world because a whitetail buck with nearly perfect 8x8 antlers is rare. At the time, there were even rumors it might be the overall state record and possibly even a world record, but it fell short of both marks after deductions.

Typical bucks are bucks which have antlers that are symmetrical on each side.

Womack's buck grossed 209 4/8th inches and netted 192 6/8th inches after deductions when it was first scored last fall. But nothing is official until it is scored again after a mandatory 60-day drying period.

The top typical buck in Oklahoma was taken with a gun by John Ehmer in Tuskahoma County in 2007. It scored 194 0/8.
