Charter review committee looks at election requirements, state law
A charter review committee named by Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt has begun its work with a review of qualifications to hold elective office.
The seven-member committee held its first working meeting Tuesday.
Among the proposals suggested by city legal and elections officers to align the charter with state law:
• Candidates for mayor or city council must file with the Oklahoma County Election Board the first Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday of December.
• Council primary elections must be the second Tuesday of February. The outdated language specifies the first Tuesday in March.
Also under consideration is language specifying how additional council members would be elected were the council to decide to go to more than the current eight wards.
