OU baseball: Sooners sweep Texas Southern
The No. 16-ranked OU baseball team swept its two-game series against Texas Southern with a 12-1 run-rule victory Wednesday in Norman.
Sophomore Trent Brown hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to end the game. The Sooners (4-1) scored five runs in the frame.
OU freshman Jake Bennett, a former Bixby standout, struck out seven batters over four innings and earned the victory in his first career start.
With the loss, Texas Southern fell to 0-6.
OU will host a four-game series against Illinois State. The opener is set for 3 p.m. Friday at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
OSU baseball edges Arizona State
Brett Standlee allowed just seven hits in seven innings of one-run ball, and the No. 24-ranked Oklahoma State baseball team defeated No. 8 Arizona State 2-1 Tuesday night in Phoenix.
Cade Cabbiness drove in OSU's (2-2) two runs. He had one RBI in the second inning and another in the fourth.
With the loss, Arizona State fell to 2-3.
OSU will have its home opener on Friday. The Cowboys play Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Cummins, Reband, Eckroat on Ben Hogan Award watch list
OU's Quade Cummins and Garett Reband and Oklahoma State's Austin Eckroat are among 31 golfers on the Ben Hogan Award watch list.
The award is given annually to the top men’s NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during a 12-month period from June to May.
The list of 10 semifinalists, which could include golfers not on the watch list, will be unveiled on April 15. That group will be cut down to three finalists in May.
OSU's Gray named to watch list for Wade Trophy
Oklahoma State basketball star Vivian Gray is one of ten players on the Wade Trophy watch list.
The Wade Trophy is awarded annually to the top women's player in the nation.
Gray, a 6-foot-1 junior, is averaging 19.8 points, 3.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
Former OSU wrestler to compete in MMA fight at WinStar
Bellator 239 is set for Friday at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville.
Former Oklahoma State star wrestler Kyle Crutchmer will compete in the second MMA fight of his career. Crutchmer, who won his MMA debut at WinStar last November, will face Scott Futrell.
Two main events are scheduled for Friday. One will feature a welterweight matchup between three-time Penn State wrestling national champion Ed Ruth and Yaroslav Amosov. The other is a lightweight bout between Brandon Girtz and Myles Jury.
Preliminary fights start at 5:15 p.m. in the Global Event Center.
