OU softball weekend recap: Sooners earn top-5 win in Hillenbrand Invitational
OU earned its best win of the season but also suffered its first loss over the weekend in the Hillenbrand Invitational.
The Sooners lost 5-4 to Long Beach State on Saturday, but bounced back with a win over Arizona right after. OU closed out the weekend with a run-rule win over Northern Iowa.

Sooners earn top 5 win
OU got its first win over a ranked opponent Saturday, beating No. 4 Arizona 6-4 in 10 innings.
The Sooners scored a run in the seventh to force extra innings. Both teams were scoreless in extra innings until the top of the tenth inning when sophomore right fielder Grace Green hit a fly ball to left field. Arizona’s Isabella Dayton dropped the ball, and the Sooners got two runs across to take the lead and eventually the win.
OU will play another top-ranked opponent this weekend in current-No. 1 Washington.
Lynssie Elam’s bat gets hot
Junior Lynssie Elam’s bat is hot right now.
She hit four home runs in the Hillenbrand Invitational. She’s already at five home runs for the season, equaling her season total from last year. She finished the weekend with a .412 average for the tournament.
Junior Jocelyn Alo also hit three home runs over the weekend. She started the weekend with two home runs against Bryant and finished it with a homer against Northern Iowa. She is at four home runs for the season.
Young pitchers making an impact
Freshman Olivia Rains made her first appearances of the season over the weekend. Rains threw 10 innings over three games, including 4.2 scoreless innings pitched against Arizona.
Freshman Macy McAdoo got the start against Arizona and pitched a total of 16.1 innings over the weekend. She gave up nine hits and recorded 10 strikeouts.
Senior Shannon Saile did the bulk of the work, pitching 23.2 innings. She threw 35 strikeouts and gave up 10 walks and 14 hits in the outings.
The Sooners will head out to California to play in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. OU will open the weekend at 12:30 p.m. on Friday against Nebraska. The Sooners will also play Texas A&M, Seattle, No. 1-ranked Washington and Wisconsin.
