High school boys basketball: Southwest Covenant's Kirk Cole sets school scoring record in win against Sentinel
Kirk Cole hardly missed.
His layups and 3-pointers all went in the basket. Teammates and coaches watched as Cole, a junior on Southwest Covenant's boys basketball team, continued to shoot and continued to make bucket after bucket.
Cole scored 44 points, a school record, in the Patriots' 78-54 win against Sentinel on Saturday. Senior Will Haas added 16 points and 10 assists, which was one off a school record, to help Southwest Covenant win the Class A District 2 final.
"He shot the ball really, really well," coach Kevin Cobbs said. "He's very creative, the most creative scorer I've ever coached. It's impressive."
The win propelled Southwest Covenant to the Class A Regional winner's bracket game. The Patriots (14-5) will travel to Arapaho-Butler to face the host at 8 p.m. Thursday.
