Sooners sweep doubleheader against Virginia
Oklahoma's Tyler Hardman homered and drove in four runs to leads the Sooners to a 5-1 win Saturday and a doubleheader sweep of Virginia in the Wahoos Classic in Pensacola, Florida.
Hardman broke a 1-1 tied in the seventh with a mammoth two-run homer then added a 2-RBI single in the ninth. OU starter Dane Acker pitched five innings of one-hit ball, allowing one run and fanning six.
Wyatt Olds picked up the win after relieving in the sixth. Jason Ruffcorn pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save.
In the first game, OU (2-1) downed Virginia 7-2 as pitcher Zack Matthews got the win in relief. At the plate, designated hitter Jordan Vujovich scored twice and added an RBI, while Peyton Graham doubled twice and had a run and RBI.
Cowboys down Grand Canyon for first win of season
Oklahoma State picked up its first win of the season with a 6-4 victory over Grand Canyon on Saturday in Phoenix, Arizona.
After dropping the opener of the three-game series 10-3 on Friday night, the 16th-ranked Cowboys used a pair of three-run innings to even the series. The rubber game is Sunday at 3 p.m. at GCU Ballpark.
Alix Garcia was 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for the Cowboys, while Kaden Polcovich was 2-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs. Jake Thompson and Noah Sifrit also had two hits each for the Pokes.
Southpaw Parker Scott picked up the win on the mound as the junior worked six innings and allowed two runs, on earned, while striking out four. He did not issue a walk and surrendered seven hits.
