NBA All-Star: Former Sooner Buddy Hield wins 3-point contest

CHICAGO -- Former Sooner Buddy Hield won the 3-point contest on a buzzer beater.

The Kings guard beat 2018 3-point champion Devin Booker in the final round to claim his first 3-point title. He made seven of his last eight shots.

Hield said he talked with Booker before they faced off.

“He was talking about it and said he already got one, and that gave me motivation to get one,” Hield said. “He said coming every time brings more pressure. As a shooter, you want to win one. Every shooter wants to win one, and I feel like that. Joe [Harris] won it last year. [Davis] Bertans is having a great year shooting the ball, Devin, Trae [Young], Zach [LaVine]. Top three-point guys in the league. You want to come out and show it. But it's fun.”

Hield said he heard the announcer call out, “26” and he knew he had to make one more shot to beat Booker. Hield held the follow through as he released his final shot, hopping as he watched it fall through the hoop.

He dedicated the trophy to those who were affected by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas, Hield’s home country.
